Today I’m celebrating some exciting news: a paper I wrote about yoga and its potential to unite people and cultures from around the world, has been accepted for presentation at the 6th International Yoga Conference at Kaivalyadhama, India.
The conference will be held just after Christmas and attracts yoga researchers, lecturers and practitioners from around the world.
I’d like to thank the two women that I interviewed for the paper. Normah Sulaiman does some incredible work in the Muslim community in her home country of Malaysia and in numerous other countries as well. Leith Sharp, a long time friend, has spent years tirelessly working in the area of environmental sustainability, most recently at Harvard University.
Both of these women, in different cultures, countries and spheres of life, have been applying the principles of Yoga for many years. Yet neither of them profess to practice it. Yoga exists in most people’s lives in some form or other. As a yoga teacher the challenge is often to recognise how yoga manifests in the lives people lead and to then encourage it to blossom further.
I’d also like to thank my partner, David Stott for his editing skills that helped get this paper over the line.
